I've noticed that some of the Usernames have "+" symbols next to them, and that mine has a "*" symbol. Why is this?

I've noticed that some of the Usernames have "+" symbols next to them, and that mine has a "*" symbol. Why is this?
The + signal means that you are their friends. And I think the * symbol is just you.
