A rustling of leaves and some mewing later and two cats emerged from the cover of a thicket. The stunningly beautiful and handsome bronze Egyptian Mau casted his vibrant green gaze on his friend before saying, "Where are we? How long have we been travelling for? What is this place and cat we stop for a bit so I can groom?"

The mixed bred she-cat that was his best friend let out a quiet hiss before snapping, "Sweet mother of a mewling kit, that's a lot of questions to have. No idea, a couple moons, no clue and yes."

With that said, the she-cat flopped on her side into a pile of snow and let the cool settle in before commenting on the disbandment of the Dusk Syndicate, "Why did things have to fall apart just before the snowy season?"

"You're asking me?" The Mau replied, "I was never affiliated with such and would never dream of it." He set to grooming his already glistening pelt to make it better kept and more lustrous its short hairs.

Chatter like this continued between the two cats as they contemplated their next actions and what they would do about their current circumstances.

Rowan padded along letting his mind stray far into the clouds. Clumps of snow occasionally intercepted the dirt trail that hadn't seemed to be trodden on in many moons. His stomach let out a small rumble but he knew he could go much longer without prey as he had gotten accustomed to being awfully hungry on his journeying, as well as thirsty, tired, and even at times lonely. A smile pulled his lips back as he remembered the last interaction he had with a certain interesting loner by the name of Torture. Rowan, as usual, had developed a crush but it didn't last. Suddenly he squeaked in surprise as his paw snagged on a tree root, ripping him from the daydreaming and into reality. Hissing a curse he scrambled back up and shook the bits of dead leaf and snow from his dark auburn red pelt. He lifted his twitching nose and decided to hunt whilst he still had his strength and energy up. His ears twitched up in surprise as a faint cat scent wafted in front of his nose. His tail lifted happily as it made him happiest to meet new felines. Simmer down, not all of them are friendly. His mind flashed back to the memories of meeting a hostile clan patrol back when he was exploring the forest. Though some of them, such as Talonpaw, were curious, innocent, and kind their were the territorial as well. Rowan twitched his whiskers impatiently reminding himself to stop drifting off.
He sped up into a trot in search for the cats, hoping they were fascinating. The scent got stronger and stronger as he walked on and by the time he got closest the sun had switched sides of the sky but was still above the trees. Rowan carefully stepped out of the shelter of the undergrowth and in view of the others. "Hello." His voice rumbled softly in his throat as he greeted the pair with kind, and gentle lime green eyes.

The tom's concerned reminder came partly true when the mixed she-cat's piercing blue gaze immediately fell on the newcomer as she questioned without greeting, "Who are you?" There was no sign of hostility yet in her voice, just the hint of wariness and her natural prickliness that could be mistaken for hostility.

While his friend abruptly questioned the appearance of the newcomer, the bronze Mau move to sit closer to the two cats, watching the interaction with some form of light interest. All the former showcat knew was the hostility of the Dusk Syndicate and the sassy prideful natures of many showcats, so for him to see a cat with a soft, genuinely kind look on their expression was surprising and intriguing for him to encounter.

The ginger tom paused for a long moment as his lime gaze dragged over the two and analyzed them. Finally his voice rumbled again with a reply, "I am Rowan." There was a hint of purr as his attention rested on the bronze Mau that seemed to move closer. Rowan could feel his heartbeat quicken ever so slightly that he thought he may have imagined it. He sure is handsome! He gave them a smile, trying to make his expression as peaceful as he could which wasn't a challenge. "And you are?" He turned his head to smooth down a ruffled patch of fur on his shoulder when he had fallen earlier, taking notice of the muscles under the auburn fur. His whiskers twitched slightly surprised to remember how much stronger he had gotten since this journey had started. Rowan turned back to the pair and noticed the feline that spoke seemed a bit tired, though it was very subtle. "Have you two been traveling long?" His tail waved in the air curiously as his loner scent-that of cedar trees-hung in the air but he couldn't quite tell what their origins were. She could be a loner, possibly a rogue as she hold her place. His eye twitched toward the tom, Pretty boy could be a kittypet with that fancy of a pelt.

"Kabuki." The mixed female replied, "and this is Stryx."

Her pelt visibly relaxed as she sensed that there was no threat in the tom, but her muscles were still kept ready to spring at any moment. Despite the unthreatening manners that the auburn colored cat had displayed, her behavior didn't allow for her to fully let her guard down in most every circumstance.

As Kabuki seemed to be subtly against saying anymore, Stryx stepped forward to fill in the blanks, "Maybe a couple moons."

The bronze green-eyed cat didn't like the idea of travelling long distances because it caused great pressure against his need to keep his fur well kept. Even though he willingly gave up his former life as a showcat to follow his friend Kabuki, he didn't want his pelt to turn into a mess while he was out and about with forest cats.

Neither of the two cats had really encountered another cat in moons, and besides their white fluffy furred friend Gideon, they had very little contact with cats outside the two of themselves. Ergo, their social skills are a tad bit rusty and Stryx felt like they'd need to work a bit on them.

Rowan dipped his head in a courteous manner, "Greetings." He took a slow pawstep forward to inspect the two closer, they didn't seem threatening but 'Kabuki' still had her guard up but he noticed her relax. He gave them both a sniff and let out a soft purr. Wood, almost like trees. Stale kittypet scent as well. Rowan thought as he memorized Stryx's scent before giving him a short not and turning to Kabuki. Peaches! How lovely, and- The auburn tom froze and stiffened, he would never forget the kit stealing, blood-thirsty, evil scent of the cats who commonly attack at dusk. Though it was very faint he was sure Kabuki must've encountered the Dusk Syndicate before. He forced his muscles to relax before stepping back and sitting down, wrapping his tail neatly around his paws. Rowan pushed his discovery away, it seemed the she-cat was no longer with the tyrants but he was still concerned. "Where have you two come from?" He inquired cooly looking at them both with a gaze that was sparkling with curiosity. I wonder if they're hungry... He pondered with a small grin, Maybe I can catch them a treat and gain their trust. It was obvious Rowan loved making new friends.

"Dusk Syndicate." Kabuki mused as she had watched the tom with sharp blue eyes. She had taken note of the auburn tom stiffening up when he approached her and took in her scent. Likewise, she had done the same thing and concluded that the tom had quite the extensive journey and story to tell given his mangled mix of scents.

She could tell the tom was taken aback by the syndicate scent that was faintly present on her pelt. Given that is she had left fairly recently, just before the syndicate reached the peak of the Evil Era, the scent would reasonably still be faintly present on her pelt. After giving a lick to the slightly risen fur on her shoulder, she murmured, "You have quite the lengthy story to tell," seemingly to herself before she let Stryx take the reins of the situation.

The bronze tom sat himself beside his companion before he mewed, "You can already tell by my scent." His eyes were narrowed in the sense of him trying to get a clearer look at the tom, and not out of any form of hostility. He was well aware that a scent usually gave away one's story, and that some were harder to remove no matter how hard a cat could try. What was this newcomer...pondered the Mau as he watched the newcomer through his vibrant green gaze.

Once he had finished analyzing the mau, Rowan broke his gaze from the tom and shifted it towards the observant feline. "I sure do. That is, if you have the time for my tales." There was a subtle hint of an amused purr that rumbled in his voice. I sound like an old tom! As the sun began to dip behind the trees his lime green hues began to glow a deep green. "I'd be happy to share my story if we find some shelter for the night. I mean if you want my company." He smiled before lightly rising to his paws and stretching his now tired limbs. What he wouldn't give to be in Marmalade's warm twoleg nest during this frosty leaf-bare. "Well?" Rowan prompted after stretching- now feeling a rush of energy. Is stomach felt more empty since he had met the loners and he was hoping they could hunt soon.

"I have no objection." Kabuki replied as the feline rose to her paws and stretched them before turning to the bronze Mau, "You?"

Stryx shook his head to signal that he had no objection either as he got to his paws following the mixed she, "Nope." His green gaze changed from the she to the rowan colored tom, "We'd love to have your company." There was a pause as he thought for bit, "Mind if we hunt first? Judging from all of our scents, it's been a while since any of us have eaten."

While not entirely certain about the newcomer tom, he was sure of it for himself and Kabuki. He recalled their last meal being a pair of rather small chaffinches when the sun was still high in the sky and thus concluded that they should attempt a hunt before they settled in for the night.

Rowan dipped his head a bit respectfully, "Sounds good to me, I could eat as well." He took a sharp turn towards the deeper part of the forest where prey scent was strongest among the frost tang in the air. He thought about glancing back to check on the two but it was clear they could take care of themselves and he didn't want to risk offending them or treating them like kits. Despite the cold air his pelt felt warm with pleasure. Being alone in the forest can make any cat sad, especially if they were a social butterfly like the auburn tom.
A flash of red movement caught his eyes as a squirrel dashed from the roots of one large tree to the next. Rowan let the strength in his legs give out a bit so he smoothly fell in a hunters crouch and luckily the creature hadn't noticed his clearly visible pelt. He narrowed his eyes in determination. Leaf-bare was a toll on all forest animals because of the dead plants and very little prey so it made him extra eager for the squirrel-- but he wouldn't let that interfere with a clean hunt.
With paws as light as feathers he made his way closer and closer until finally he gave his hind quarters a wiggle and pounced. It squeaked with alarm as it heard his jump but it was too late once Rowans claws dug into the animals ginger fur and pulled it closer until he finished with a nip on the neck. Though it was thin he gave a satisfied purred, Anything's better than nothing! He spun around and started to trot back towards Stryx and Kabuki.
