At the mention of the bookstore, Chi lit up, "Yeah! Sorry, it had only gotten so late. It's down the road and off the corner of the park, actually. Might you have seen it? It sells more than books, actually, it's just what I go there for. It has old records and CDs, DVDs, donated clothes and toys, along with books. It's something of a more glamourous thriftshop." This time, Chi hadn't stopped to realised she'd actually began rambling until she finished her sentence, making her face burn a little hotter and draw her eyes to the floor.

"Ahem, if you really want to," She said quickly, leaning against the counter and folding her arms over her chest as she gave herself a silent pep talk. Just relax. She practically invited you first anyway, silly. Deep breaths. Okay. You can do this.

Mie couldn't deny the twinge of disappointment at Luna's closeness and warmth disappearing and watching the small girl go made Miesha want to reach out and grab her and hold her again. Instead, she sighed, pushing off of the counter and turning to take her food out of the microwave and mixing it with a spoon. She felt her face burning hotter than the sun, probably as red as a tomato at this point. She ate the oatmeal a little too quickly, dropping the Advil in the last spoonful [no matter how strong she was, Miesha could never stand the taste] and finishing by sucking down a bottle of water. After cleaning up, she started up the stairs to her and Luna's shared room and stifled a yawn. She'd usually gotten home earlier and would usually be in bed by now. Then again, she usually had a job. She ignored that last thought and gently closed the door behind her with a soft click.

She looked over to Luna's bed. Empty. She didn't panic, instead, looking over to her own bed and seeing the small, familiar form of her best friend. Of course. It wasn't uncommon for Luna to sleep in Miesha's bed, but every time she saw her a rush of heat flooded her cheeks and she couldn't help but let a shy smile spread across her face. After changing into some comfortable clothes, she lifted the blanket and crawled under it with Luna, still asleep, turning her back to her and shutting her eyes. It was only when her head hit the pillow she realised how really exhausted she felt.

carmen smiled hearing her talk, it seemed she lit up at the most simplest of things. it made her heart thump. giving a small nod,¨id like that,mind leading the way? i dont know the city to well.¨ despite living her for almost half of her life now, carmen didnt know her way around the city to well. she was a workaholic and had never really had a time to..just take a breather and enjoy what was around her. if it wasnt work related,carmen most likely didnt know about it. it felt different, to have a friend outside of work and highschool, someone who rambled and got happy over the smallest of things. it felt like a breath of fresh air.

//

in her half awake state on instinct she wrapped her arms around Mie, limbs slinking over her waist and pressing close, snugging close to the living heat source of a person. this was normal. luna couldnt sleep without her around, there was no way. she could stay awake for days at a time if she wasnt home, her body physically wouldnt let her. she didnt know why, but she felt safe like this. under the covers,limbs tangled with her best friend. she she was half awake at the moment, mind cloudy and foggy from lack of sleep. she rested the side of her face against mies back,humming contently. before feeling her body slip back into unconsciousness she spoke.
¨love you.¨

With a warm smile, Chi nodded, "Okay, I'll go get my coat and I'll be ready in a few minutes." As she turned, she remembered Carmen still had her makeup on. Was she comfortable with that? Chi didn't want to force her to wear it if she wasn't comfortable with it in public.

"You can take the makeup off if you don't want to wear it in public, I'll understand," She added quickly, before leaving the room.

She hurried to her own bedroom, despite already being dressed, she just needed a few moments alone to collect herself. She needed to take a breather and remember that CJ was just a friend. A really, really nice friend, who she held hands with and had awkward moments with and hung out with because she liked to. That's all. It wasn't like Chi knew what falling in love felt like, although, if she had to describe it, it would probably match how she felt whenever Carmen was around. The butterflies, the need for contact, the missing her when she left. That was normal for friends, right? Yeah. (Chi would never admit it, but deep down she knew that's exactly not normal for friends.)

Just a few moments from sleep, the words had sounded faint, as if muffled by cotton, though Mie hadn't noticed she smiled as she drifted off. By the time she woke, it was around 6 o'clock, the neon green alarm clock on her bedside table making her squint at the time. She'd only wanted a short power nap, but she didn't mind the rest. She felt much better than when she'd walked through the front door that morning. Still, she didn't exactly want to get up, feeling the warmth of Luna's body against the small of her back, she wanted to just lie there and relax in it a while. The creeping dread of having to tell Luna she'd quit made a small pit in her stomach, so she closed her eyes to forget about it. She would have to get up and early to the station to retrieve her uniform, having called the police station after she'd left the bar the night before. She didn't want Luna to blame herself, but Miesha couldn't just lie to her. She wasn't that kind of person.

Sighing, Miesha stirred and sat up the most she could without disturbing Luna too much, ruffling her hair a bit and yawning as she leaned up against the wall. Working back at the station wouldn't be so bad, really. She'd actually liked it there but stopped so she could spend her days with Luna more often. She was on a twenty-four-hour rotation. 24 hours on, 24 hours off, then a four-day break at the end of the week. It had been difficult to maintain, seeing Luna so little, but it worked. Maybe she could switch her hours. Looking back down at her small companion, a shy smile crept along her face and she gently ran her fingers through her long, tangled hair.

she opened her mouth to say something, but she had already left the room. when thinking about it she forgot she had makeup on. usually she throw fits about it, wanting to wash it off in an instant. but this..was different. chi had done it. carmen could tell she loved doing her job, seeing how focused she was, howd shed laugh at her dumb jokes about not knowing makeup, and all of that. she wasnt forcing herself to wear it, carmen wasnt that type of person. she enjoyed wearing it, so she wouldnt be running to the bathroom anytime soon.

while she waited she thought a bit. she had only met chi a few weeks ago yet her life seemed turned upside down already. carmen never took breaks or days off, only seeing casper every few months despite being only a few hours away. she was a workaholic. yet here she was, with a girl that she had held hands with and had gotten to carry through a freakin flower field only a few weeks ago. it was wild, honestly. she would admit that she liked chi alot..not in that way, or atleast she thought. she enjoyed her presence. alot. like a lot alot. she always felt giddy and hyper yet so calm and at ease at the same time. it was a rush of emotions that made her head dizzy when thinking to much about it. but it was a good feeling, she knew that much.

//

her head was rather sensitive, so it was easy for her to stir awake at the mere touch of it. it took her a moment to open, silent enjoying the comforting feeling of mie next to her. mitched matched hues greeting deep brown, she couldve sworn she was still dreaming with how good she felt. leaning up, she rested her head on mies chest, letting her mess with her hair without making a fuss about it. she felt content, the rays of late oranges fluttering through the blinds. they probably had the worst sleeping pattern, but she didnt care. right now shed sit in the comforting silence without a care in the world. the grip around mies waist only tightened as she let her eyes fall back into a close.

this was short lived,seeing as pain shot through her head within minutes of feeling comfortable. she furrowed her brows in discomfort, giving a small groan. she hadnt exactly eaten very well last night(her diet had mainly been ice cream and cold, sad hotpockets). and along with staying up almost 24 hours would make anyone feel sick. she sat up in the "shared" bed, thick, long hair fluffing out in all directions. she rested her face in her hands, giving a weak chuckle,"i think i had to many five hour energies last night," she didnt like that fact that she couldnt sleep without mie in the house, it made things difficult for her health wise, explaining the large amount of empty energy bottles that were littering on lunas side of the room, specifically her nightstand. her head felt dizzy and shed probably throw up later, but she didnt care. she turned to mie, giving a dopey smile, eyes scrunched up from adjusting to the light in the room. looking towards her nightstand she read the time, frowning. they had missed lunas favorite part of the day--the sunset. but since that was over,it was usually around the time mie went to work,assuming she had a job that is. she furrowed her brow,"arent you late for work?"

A shaky hand roughly made its way over Chi's face. She was a generally anxious person, though too busy to realise it. Shy and keeping to herself, not often taking up invites for national talk shows because of it. How had she accepted Carmen so easily? How had she made her stammer so hard she felt she couldn't breathe? If Chi was superstitious, she might have said it was a curse, or perhaps a blessing, she wasn't sure. The feeling was so... foreign to her, unfamiliar and different. She'd never experienced attraction to much, so she didn't know if that's what it was either. Sure, she could compare the feeling to Kyran, but perhaps it was different for each friend? Chi had never been so unsure and confused about anything in her entire life. She always had a plan, and a backup plan if that failed, so on. But this? She couldn't have ever been prepared for this. Had there been something to prepare her for this?

With a sigh, she dropped the questions and went to her vanity, taking her hair out of its bun and combing it out until it was a loose cotton ball on her head, pulling the hair away from her face with a plain headband. She changed out of her day clothes, wanting something more comfortable for a casual outing. Swapping from a tight crop-top, fishnets, ripped jeans, and combat boots to a slightly baggy sweater, some leggings, and some comfortably warm boots. She didn't even spare a second to look in her mirror again before grabbing her phone and wallet from the table, pausing at the door for a minute, taking a glance at the time. A decent five minutes, most of it pausing to overthink everything she and Carmen had done up until that point.

Dread washed over Miesha at the question. Normally, she would be. But she quit. She'd start her job next week, enough time to prepare and get on the old schedule again. She was picking up her uniform and gear the next morning to make sure everything was ready. There was zero way she could hide this from Luna, even if she could bring herself to. She couldn't. She gave a soft, tired laugh, hand pausing on top of Luna's head as she forced herself to say the words.

"Normally, yeah. I quit," She said plainly, letting the words hang in the air for a minute before sighing, "Mandy was... asking too much after last night, I couldn't take it anymore." She paused again, pulling away from Luna as she sat on the edge of the bed, already feeling awful. It wasn't Luna's fault, this had been her choice, "I'm going back to the station tomorrow to get my old uniform."

unlike chi, carmen was less nervous when it came to certain things. she was laid back and it was hard to get her truly anxious or worried, which could be both a blessing and a curse. when it came to feelings and friendships(and possibly, relationships?) she was cool, calm, and collected, which could irritate most. because of it, you couldnt pinpoint what she really thought of you, whether it was as a friend or something else, because of her rather monotone nature. she didnt get hyped up and nervous regarding situations like this one, where she couldnt get the same pretty girl out of her head. instead, she pushed it to the back of her mind to deal with another day. for right now, shed focus her thoughts and energy on chi.
//
¨quit?¨ she furrowed her brows in confusion. mie had to quit?obviously she thought back to last night. the fighting and shouting, how she could've on her part been less rude about the whole thing. she felt bad. she had worked there for years, and of course luna was going to blame herself for quitting, seeing as there was no mention of problem until last night. ¨was is because of me?¨ she asked softly, scooting to sit next to mie on the edge of the bed. while she was happy that the police station did accept her back; it meant a rough schedule and more sleepless nights. she was terrible with sleep when mie wasnt home, but shed endure it;she kinda deserved it after what happened. ¨im sorry.¨ she sighed. she never apologized for anything,stubborn, but when it came to mie it was easy to admit when she was wrong.

After what seemed like an eternity, Chichima finally left the room, wrapping her wallet handle around her wrist after placing her phone inside it. She lifted her head upon entering the kitchen, smiling brightly as per usual and brushing a loose curl behind her ear. She could do this. It was just an outing with a friend, she went out with Kyran all the time. A new friend, it would be no different. Besides, the store was pretty popular, and the fact Carmen had never heard of it was appalling. She really didn't get out much, did she? Chi saw she'd kept the makeup and felt a little flutter in her chest.

"Ready?" She asked, voice wavering slightly, though not hugely noticeable. Arms folded behind her back, her free hand squeezing her arm. She hid her panicking well. It wasn't a panic, really, but her heart was pounding and her mind was going a million miles a minute, however many deep breaths she took it didn't calm down.

A pang of hurt shot through Miesha's chest when Luna spoke, "It's not your fault, Luna," She assured her gently, running her fingers through her hair and pressing her warm palm to Luna's cheek, brushing her thumb over her cheekbone.

Admittedly, her mind went blank in the moment she turned and looked at Luna, the real world stopping for a minute as she took a moment to admire her dearest friend. The neon green light of the alarm clock bounced off of her mismatched eyes, spreading stars across her pupils. The small patches of mis-pigmented skin making pretty cloud formations of a night sky across her tanned skin, warm and endearing. Her hair still curled around Mie's fingers, stark black entwining itself around her pale fingers, looking like spilt ink over fresh parchment. Miesha wasn't good with feelings, so she couldn't exactly tell you what the flutter that flooded through her chest and her belly was, other than it felt nice. Nice that it seemed Luna had caused it, though she wouldn't admit that it also made her cheeks burn hotly. She was glad it was dark.

"I wanted to quit," She murmured, softer than she'd meant to, too focused on the way the green light haloed Luna's face, caressing it in places that made her look her age for once, "I wanted to. It's not your fault." Her voice was still shockingly gentle.

it wasn't that chi didnt look good all the time, because she did. but seeing her in more casual wear undoubtedly made her heart flutter a bit more. maybe it was because it was her preference,maybe not, she didnt know. but as soon as her blue eyes caught sight of her she knew she couldn't keep the small smile from forming on her face.
¨lead the way, madam.¨ she replied, tipping her head towards the front door.

she couldnt remember the last time she had genuinely hung out with someone.she wasnt a hermit,no, she was jst a workaholic. and because of that, she didnt get much time to socialize. and when she did, she often spent those few spare moments alone perched on the hill, free instead of being in a too empty apartment by herself and her cat. casper had asked countless times if they could hang out, and carmen would decline him at times because of work, yet at the very mention that she needed a break, chis words, she decided to take a week off? it was very stranger how easy and convincing it was in her head.

luna avoided her gaze for a moment, no matter how inviting it seemed. she felt sick,not physically. guilt is what it was, the only way it could be described. she felt guilty, and it only hit so hard because she didnt feel this often. she didnt like it when she messed things up for mie. but the undying headache and nausea she was feeling didnt really help with the situation either. she leaned into the touch, smaller hand being placed over mies larger one, curling her fingers around her for an attempt to comfort herself. she looked at her finally,¨alright,¨ she didnt sound convinced one bit,but she would try to believe her. eventually.¨you're not mad at me,are you?¨ with the way things were before she had left the bar, she faintly remember mies mothering scolding, which was to be expected of course. but there was no feeling worse then upsetting her in anyway. it was easy for her to be a hardass and not give a crap about anything; yet she crumbled so easily when it came to the russian.

it wasn't that chi didnt look good all the time, because she did. but seeing her in more casual wear undoubtedly made her heart flutter a bit more. maybe it was because it was her preference,maybe not, she didnt know. but as soon as her blue eyes caught sight of her she knew she couldn't keep the small smile from forming on her face.
¨lead the way, madam.¨ she replied, tipping her head towards the front door.

Chi nodded, turning on her heel and heading towards her door, opening it and letting CJ through first before closing it behind them. Almost without a second of hesitation, Chi grabbed her hand and walked with her towards the elevator, hardly able to put one foot in front of the other without question marks seeping into her head. Once inside, she hit the floor for the lobby, unsure if she should let got of Carmen's hand or not. Of course, the week before they'd held hands on their walk back from the pretty meadow Carmen had shown Chichima, so what harm would it be to do it again?

Still, only now was Chi starting to overthink, her brain suddenly everywhere at once. She was necessarily the panicking type, but when overwhelmed it tended to happen. She couldn't think straight and nothing was really clear, her body didn't seem to listen to her and she was a mess. She hadn't felt like this in a while. Something about it was sort of a... good panic? Something to get her blood pumping. Then, of course, the first thing that comes to mind is it's bad. However, she did try to calm her thoughts down. It was just a girl, a common girl, girls are everywhere. A friend. Your friend. Why does she give you butterflies when you hold hands though? Why do her messages get you giddy and excited?

A sympathetic smile crossed her lips and she pressed a kiss to Luna's forehead, cupping her face with both of her hands now, "Of course not, Luna. I could never be mad at you," She assured her, pushing some clumps of hair behind her ear and letting a small, light-hearted laugh flutter from her chest as the butterflies did. Even Miesha had to admit to herself, Luna was pretty in this sort of light. Well, any sort of light, really, but rarely did Miesha ever get the chance to sit down and admire her without seeming weird about it. She liked the moments like this, where they were sitting down and having a pause, even if it may seem bad at first.

"Ty moy drug, ya nikogda ne smogu tebya nenavidet," She mumbled aloud, not exactly meaning to. The words to her were familiar and should have been to Luna. They'd met in grade school and Luna had accidentally ruined Miesha's science project. Over and over she'd apologised, obviously afraid Miesha would be mad at her because of it. Instead of lashing out like anyone else would have, Mie smiled and put a hand on Luna's shoulder and spoke the same words, having not been exactly fluent in English at the time still. She could speak it perfectly now, but for some reason, it only felt right to say those words in Russian. It felt like it meant something more that way.

carmen perked up when her hand was held, but didnt question it. after all, they had done it only the week before, right? she liked the feeling of her hand clasp in hers. it felt nice.

but carmen wasnt stupid, or maybe she just caught up to mood changes easily. she could tell there was a bit of urgency, especially in the small wave of voice change for a second, but she didnt question it unless chi brought it up. instead, as chi pressed the floor button, let her thumb drag across her knuckles in a silent, comforting way.

she didnt know why, but the words were reassuring in a matter of seconds. small, simple words that held history. for the first time since they woke up, she smiled, mumbling a ¨thank god¨ under her breath. she liked moments like this. moments were it seemed everything paused around them. of course, she spent a lot of time with mie, she lived with her, but these were her favorite kind of moments. the intimate ones. the ones filled with gentle touches and soft words that only they were allowed to hear.

feeling the kiss pressed to her head and the hands cupping her cheeks she couldn't help by gaze for a moment, giving her undivided attention of the girl ahead of her. she looked sincere, her soft features in contrast to her rough exterior. she loved it all. they were..close. this wasn't unusual,they had always pushed past boundaries that people would consider too far for friends, so why did she feel herself hold her breath and her face grow warm? or how despite how close they were, want to lean closer? so she did, perhaps not in the way that she wanted. she leaned close, pressing a soft kiss to the side of mies face, on her cheek, letting her arms slink around the girls waist comfortably. it felt different then the kisses she gave before. they werent sloppy and casual, instead she pressed her lips so softly as if if she pressed to hard mie would break. there was a noticeable smile on her face,eyes fluttering to a comfortable close. she speaking she didnt even pull away, hot breath and lips pressed against her cheek as she talked,¨thank you.¨

The way Miesha's heart picked up speed at the simple but affectionate actions was alarming to her. Somehow, the way Luna had kissed her was different. Less like their friendly, casual kisses on the forehead, cheek, or hands that they'd share when Miesha would come home, or she'd put Luna to bed. It felt... personal. It was so soft, gentle, that Miesha would have hardly noticed it if her burning face hadn't contrasted so harshly in temperature to Luna's lips. She didn't stop her smile from widening, but she chewed on her lip as if to be defiant to herself.

She let her arms drape around the small girl curled up against her body, lazily dragging her fingers through the messy black curls as she began to hum. It was a simple tune, something of a lullaby, notes that Miesha knew by heart. She let her chin rest on the top of Luna's head and shut her eyes, enjoying the warmth that Luna seemed to be sapping directly from her heart. Miesha was usually honest with herself, but she would never be honest with anyone about the way she felt for Luna. They'd met in grade school, grew up together and moved in together. They were close, closer than anyone would expect from a scary Russian lady and a tiny ball of fury that contrasted so much from one another, both inside and out. Miesha liked it that way, while she kept Luna grounded and out of trouble, Luna kept her from being walked on and being too nice, despite her occupation.

she rubbed small shapes into mies waist with her fingers absentmindedly as she was held. to anyone on the outside of this position; it would have seemed liek they were in a relationship. hell, every time luna even brought mie up at her families house she was constantly asked if they were dating, and by fellow friends. normally friends wouldnt hold eachother like this, or kiss eachother at all, or sleep in the same bed and hold eachother at night. but they werent typical, at all, luna had soon come to find out. this, right here, was their normal. she wasnt like this with anyone else, she didnt even let anyone remotely get near her, except mie. why? she had no idea. maybe for the typical reasons of knowing eachother for years and years, or maybe its because she felt safe here, in mies arms, and enjoyed being held by her a little too much. she couldnt imagine any other person that deserved the title as her best friend, or often said in a joking way, her ¨wife¨. she nuzzled her face in the crook of the other girls neck,shifting more so to basically be sitting in her lap,making herself comfortable. she opened her eyes, only the soft hue of the neon green numbers lighting up the dark room. somehow it made it only more intimate, not really being able to see anything besides the girl she was pressed into; giving her her undivided attention. she wondered what time it was, but that soon escaped her mind realizing that she didnt care, remember that she had the rest of the night(?) with mie to herself before she started her new job. she leaned up, pressing another gentle kiss to the girls jawline, mumbling soft words only she was allowed to hear,

¨ya lyublyu tebya.¨
i love you.

Miesha's breath caught in her throat, partially caught off guard by the words. They weren't strange, no. The reason everyone called them wives was because of the way they acted towards each other, warm and romantic, like a true couple, though Miesha had never thought of it too deeply. It was a joke, light-hearted heckling over the way she and Luna were so sweet to one another, despite Miesha holding a large and intimidating authority and Luna being an energetic fireball that was ready to fight at any moment. A strange but balancing couple.

Couple. The very thought made Miesha chew on her lip. She'd been so busy thinking of the pair of them as friends-- best friends, that the idea of a romantic relationship had never occurred to her. She glanced down at the small girl in her arms, rubbing circles into her arm, trying to ignore the growing burn in her face. No. As much as Miesha knew Luna's, and her own, sexuality, there was no way Luna could think of them like that. Yes, to Miesha, a romantic relationship with Luna... would be nice. She couldn't admit any more than that to herself, but she couldn't expect Luna to feel the same way. They had been friends since as long as Miesha could remember, she couldn't ruin that with some silly fantasy. She hummed a tick of laughter.

"Ya tozhe tebya lyublyu," She murmured back, not so sure she wanted to get out of bed anymore.

she knew the words were platonic, and she knew that they always would be. she didnt know why that didnt sit right. okay, well, she did. luna had always been honest with herself, especial when it came to feelings, but rarely did she act on them or even acknowledge them, letting them be pushed to the back of her mind until it was moments like this that made her heart flutter more and give the dorkiest smiles. moments like this where mie would hold her and theyd share all of the kisses they could share as friends without it being weird. it was only then, did she acknowledge them, the longing, making her feel so full yet so empty at the same time. it only made her headache worse when thinking to much about it,letting out a small huff and leaned on mie completely as while yes, she was a living heat source, was much cooler compared to how luna was feeling; both from being enviably flustered and sick. maybe it was just the five hour energies. yeah. even if they had nothing to do today until the morning when mie picked up her uniform, luna couldnt be bothered to leave bed, both confused from feelings that made her dizzy and a headache to top it off. she opened her mouth to say something, to say what was on her mind. she always had done that, been as blunt as she could be with people even if it hurt people and ruined relationships, its why miesha and her have always gotten along, there was always honesty between them. but this? she couldnt. she closed her mouth after a moment. no way she could tell her best friend of years that she was possibly feeling more then friend things at the moment while sitting in her lap.
